Army celebrates Kargil Vijay Diwas In Drass

Showcases cutting-edge drone technology to mark 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas

The Indian Army celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas 2026 at Lamochen View Point, located at an altitude of 11,500 feet in Drass, with patriotic fervour.

As per a statement, Lieutenant General Ritesh Bhalla, GOC Fire and Fury Corps, hoisted the Tricolour as the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Maj Gen Ashim Kohli (Retd), a Kargil War Hero and CEO, called it the most unique flag hoisting event, with iconic battle sites—Batra Top, Tiger Hill, and Tololing—clearly visible in the backdrop.

Meanwhile, in a powerful display of technological evolution since the 1999 Kargil War, the Indian Army held a spectacular drone show in Drass on Friday as part of the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorations.

Observed annually on July 26, Kargil Vijay Diwas honours the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers who laid down their lives while pushing back Pakistani intruders from the rugged heights of Kargil.

This year’s event stood out for its futuristic focus. A fleet of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) lit up the skies over Drass, demonstrating advanced capabilities such as surveillance, supply deliveries, and precision targeting of enemy positions using onboard explosives.

Among the highlights were indigenously developed logistic drones capable of operating at altitudes up to 4,000 metres. These high-altitude UAVs are designed to deliver supplies and aid operations in extremely challenging terrain.

The showcase also featured robotic dogs—autonomous machines equipped to carry ammunition, assist in patrols, and navigate treacherous routes along the Line of Control (LoC).

“These technologies mark a major leap in our ability to monitor hostile activities and provide vital support to troops deployed in difficult areas,” a senior Army official said. “They significantly reduce risks to soldiers and ease the physical toll in harsh conditions like those found in the Ladakh region.”

The event served as a powerful reminder of the nation’s resolve to remain vigilant and technologically prepared, even as it paid homage to the heroes of 1999.(KINS)
