Army Pays Tributes to 1947 Warriors, Civilians

armySrinagar: Army today paid rich tributes to Late Brigadier Rajinder Singh of erstwhile J&K State Forces, popularly regarded as the Saviour of Kashmir.

In a simple and solemn ceremony, the Chinar Corps Commander, Lt Gen Satish Dua today unveiled an impressive Bust of Singh as a mark of honour, respect and pride for his gallantry and supreme sacrifice during the 1947 Pak abetted tribal invasion of J&K. Singh is already awarded posthumously the first post independence gallantry award of Maha Vir Chakra.

The bust was unveiled at the Main Entrance Gate of Badami Bagh Cantonment which is already named 'Brigadier Rajinder Singh Dwar' in his memory.

The occasion was attended by dignitaries from political, bureaucratic and academic circles besides the Security Forces. It was marked by recalling the heroic rear guard actions of this brave soldier and his handful of equally determined comrades to delay the advancing Pak raiders between Garhi and Boniyar where he lost his life. On the occasion glowing tributes were offered to all the martyrs including the civilians who had laid down their lives while pushing back Pakistan supported invaders.

The Chinar Corps Commander saluted the patriotism of the people who lost their lives in the battle martyred and stated that such exemplary lives were a source of inspiration for all posterity.
