Kolkata, June 9 (UNI) Arrested Youtuber and author Roddur Roy, accused of lampooning West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with derogatory remarks in the social media, on Thursday was sent to six days police custody by a local court in the city after being produced for judicial process, court sources said.
Roy was picked up from a hotel in Goa early on Tuesday by a joint team of Kolkata Police Cyber
Cell and anti-rowdy squad of Lalbazar for his alleged derogatory remarks against the Chief Minister
in the social media.
He was brought on transit remand on Wednesday and produced before the Bankshall Court in the
city for judicial process on Thursday.
Roddur Roy was produced before the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Mayukh Mukherjee, who ordered six days police remand to the Youtuber upto June 14.
The fans and admirers of Roddur Roy supporting the ‘Moxa’ movement, raised slogans and
cheered his name when he got down from the police vehicle before entering the court.
Roddur Roy was picked up on Tuesday from a hotel in Goa for allegedly using abusive languages
on social media against the West Bengal Chief Minister, TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee and
Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim in his Youtube videos after the sudden demise of popular singer KK.
After the video went viral, Roy was booked at three separate police stations.
Santanu Sen, a Rajya Sabha member of the Trinamool Congress, had personally addressed Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal and requested him to take action in the situation.
