IED Defused In Bandipora, Major Tragedy Averted: Police

Srinagar: An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that was planted near Garoora village on Bandipora-Srinagar highway in north Kashmir was on Thursday defused by the forces, police said.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Bandipora, Sheikh Zulfikar Azad while talking to KNO said that a suspicious article was detected on the road near Garoora village on Bandipora-Srinagar highway. “The investigation in this regard is going on,” he said, adding that an article weighing 20 kgs was found and major tragedy was averted today.

Meanwhile, reports said IED was spotted by a road opening party of Army’s 13 RR unit around 8am. It added the IED was planted inside an iron container on the roadside.

“Road opening party of Army’s 13 RR unit and Explosive Detective Dog (ED Dog) detected the suspicious article. The IED was later defused by police’s bomb disposal squad,” reports added.

Local sources told KNO that the vehicular movement also came to a grinding halt on Bandipora-Srinagar highway for some time. “The traffic was allowed to ply after the IED was defused,” they added.(KNO)
