Stepping up its attack on the former party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, the Congress on Monday accused Azad of being loyal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi which it said ‘’demonstrate his true character”.

“With every passing day, Ghulam Nabi Azad falls to new depths to demonstrate his true character and his loyalty to Mr Modi,” Congress general secretary in-charge Communications Jairam Ramesh wrote in a tweet, attacking the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister.

Azad severed his several decades association with Congress and floated his own party Democratic Azad Party (DAP). He has been training guns at the Gandhi family besides questioning the functioning of the Congress since he deserted the party.

“His contemptible statements on the Congress leadership reflect his desperation to remain relevant. I can only say that he is pathetic.”

Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a quirky tweet took a swipe at five of his former party leaders including Azad as he mentioned the Adani issue.

The Hindenburg Research report alleged the Adani Group had engaged in stock manipulation and accounting fraud schemes over the course of decades.

“They hide the truth. So, they mislead everyday. The question remains the same whose Rs 20,000 crore benami money is in Adani’s companies,” he had said.

Opposition parties have been demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Hindenburg Research report over Adani Group.
