The District Administration Baramulla on Monday issued a comprehensive advisory in view of the inclement weather forecast by Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, predicting heavy to very heavy rains in the district in the coming days.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa (IAS), who is also the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), as per KINS has directed all line departments to remain on high alert and ensure adequate preparedness to tackle any eventuality arising from heavy rainfall.
The administration has urged the general public to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly towards hilly, avalanche-prone, and landslide-prone areas. People have also been strictly advised against venturing near rivers, streams, nallahs, and irrigation canals due to the risk of sudden rise in water levels. Fishermen, sand extractors, and construction workers near water bodies have been prohibited from working until weather conditions improve.
Farmers have been advised to take measures for safeguarding crops and livestock, while commuters have been cautioned against overspeeding on slippery roads. Parents have also been told to ensure children stay away from swollen water bodies.
In case of landslides, flash floods, or house collapses, the public has been asked to immediately inform the nearest police station, Tehsil Office, or Disaster Management Control Room.

PWD/R&B to keep men and machinery ready for road clearance.
I&FC Department to monitor water levels in Jhelum and tributaries.
PHE to ensure uninterrupted water supply.
KPDCL to keep rapid response teams on standby for power restoration.
Health Department to keep ambulances and emergency teams ready.
Police & SDRF to remain alert for evacuation and rescue.
Fire & Emergency Services to keep dewatering pumps ready.
Municipal Committees & RDD to clear drains and prevent waterlogging.
FCS&CA to ensure ration availability in remote areas.
Emergency contact numbers have also been issued for the public, including DDMA Control Room Baramulla (01952-234343, 7006493646, 7006271972), Police Control Room (9596767768), Fire & Emergency Services (700692102), Medical Helpline (108), and ERSS (112).
The Deputy Commissioner assured that adequate men and machinery are already on standby in coordination with Police, SDRF, and other departments to ensure quick response. He also appealed for public cooperation to ensure community safety during this period of inclement weather.(KINS)
