‘Resumption of dialogue will help to build trust’

 As the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is likely to meet Nawaz Sharif during her visit to Islamabad tomorrow, ex-Chief of RAW and adviser to former PM Atal Behari Vajpayee on Kashmir, Monday said that though any breakthrough on Kashmir talks can take time, but the beginning of NSA level talks and External Affairs minister’s visit to Pakistan is a welcome step.

“First, NSA level talks between the two countries and now External affairs minister Shushma Swaraj’s visit to Islamabad is a welcome step. It can strengthen the relationship between the two countries,” Dulat told KNS over phone from New Delhi.

He said that though we cannot expect any breakthrough on Kashmir talks at this juncture but we should take such steps in a positive way. “I am sure that the Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi will visit to Islamabad. Both the countries should forget the past and should take bold steps for the better relations,”

He added that the surprise NSA level Indo –Pakistan talks was definitely a follow-up to the key moment when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his counterpart Nawaz Shrief met less than a week ago. “It can wide open the doors for an India-Pakistan dialogue. I am sure that the resumption of dialogue between the two countries will help to build trust,” he said

According to the Pakistan prime minister's adviser on foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is likely to meet Nawaz Sharif during her visit to Islamabad.

It is pertinent to mention here that the National Security Advisors of the two countries met for four hours in Bangkok on Sunday and discussed terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir, and other bilateral issues and agreed to take forward the "constructive" engagement.

Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Monday also welcomed talks between National Security Advisors (NSAs) of India and Pakistan in Bangkok, hoping it will set the tone for reconciliation between the two neighboring countries. (KNS)
