Bhaker, Sarabjot advance to bronze medal match after Ramita’s disappointment

In a dramatic turn of events at the Paris Olympics, Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh on Monday provided a much-needed boost for Indian sports enthusiasts close on the heels of a letdown from Ramita Jindal, who narrowly missed out on a medal, leaving fans disheartened just moments earlier.


Bhaker and Sarabjot demonstrated impressive skill and coordination, amassing a total of 580 points in their event. This performance earned them a spot in the medal round, where they will compete for bronze.


In the same competition, another Indian pair, Rhythm Sangwan and Arjun Cheema, achieved a respectable score of 576, finishing in 10th place.


The bronze medal match, scheduled for tomorrow at 1 PM IST, will see Bhaker and Sarabjot face off against the South Korean team, comprising Oh Ye Jin and Wonho Lee. Meanwhile, the gold medal match will feature teams from Serbia and Turkey, promising a thrilling conclusion to the competition.


During the preliminary rounds, the Indian duo of Rhythm and Arjun started strong, holding the fifth position with 194 points after the first series. Bhaker and Sarabjot were close behind in sixth place.


In the subsequent series, Bhaker and Sarabjot improved their standing by scoring 195 points, while Rhythm and Arjun secured 192 points. In the final series, Bhaker and Sarabjot scored 192 points, solidifying their position, while Rhythm and Arjun scored 190 points.


By the end of the three series, Bhaker and Sarabjot’s total of 580 points, along with 20 inners, propelled them into the finals in fourth place.


In a noteworthy achievement earlier in the competition, Bhaker made history by winning a bronze medal in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol event, becoming the first Indian woman shooter to earn an Olympic medal. This historic feat adds to the anticipation and excitement surrounding her and Sarabjot’s performance in the upcoming bronze medal match.
