Senior BJD leader and six-time MP from the Cuttack Lok Sabha seat, Bhartruhari Mahtab, on Thursday joined the BJP at the party’s headquarters office in Delhi.

Mahtab resigned from the primary membership of the BJD on March 22, expressing his displeasure with the functioning of party affairs and its deviation from the ideology on which the regional party was formed.

Along with Mahtab, former BJD MP Siddhant Mohapatra and noted writer Damayanti Besra also joined the BJP in the presence of party President J.P. Nadda, Odisha unit President Manmohan Samal, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and party Vice President Baijayant Panda.

Mahtab is likely to be fielded from the Cuttack Lok Sabha seat by the BJP as the party has yet to name the candidate for this prestigious parliamentary constituency.

Mahtab thanked the BJP’s top leadership and said he is going to start a new innings with a new team in his three-decade-long political career.
