US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden expressed “shocked” by the gun violence in Highland Park in the northern suburbs of Chicago, Illinois on Independence Day.

At least six people were killed and 26 injured, including one child, in the mass shooting at an Independence Day Parade on Monday morning (local time).

According to CBS News, Robert “Bobby” Crimo III, who had been identified as a person of interest, was arrested around 6:30 pm local time in connection with the shooting, nearly nine hours after the shooting.

Meanwhile, Biden said, “Jill and I are shocked by the senseless gun violence that has yet again brought grief to an American community on this Independence Day. As always, we are grateful for the first responders and law enforcement on the scene.”

He further said that he has spoken to Governor Pritzker and Mayor Rotering, and have offered the full support of the Federal government to their communities.

“I recently signed the first major bipartisan gun reform legislation in almost thirty years into law, which includes actions that will save lives. But there is much more work to do, and I’m not going to give up fighting the epidemic of gun violence,” he added.
