Civilian injured in militant attack in Shopian

Srinagar, June 1 (UNI) Militants on Wednesday evening shot at and injured a civilian in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

The shooting took place at village Chidren, Keegam in Shopian a day after 36-year-old school teacher Rajni Bala, a Hindu and resident of Samba was shot dead in Kulgam.

Police said civilian Farooq Ahmad Sheikh was fired upon by militants in Chidren, Keegam.

“He got (an) injury in leg and has been shifted to hospital,” a police spokesman said, adding that his condition was stated to be stable.

Soon after the incident, security forces rushed to the spot and launched a manhunt to trace the attackers.
