CM Omar Abdullah thanks Centre for sanctioning 50 additional MGNREGA workdays for calamity-hit Panchayats

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday thanked Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for approving 50 additional days of work under MGNREGA for calamity-affected Panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir.

He also congratulated J&K Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Minister Javid Ahmad Dar and his team for successfully pursuing the proposal with the Government of India.

The CM said the decision will provide crucial livelihood support to thousands of households affected by recent floods and landslides. The Centre has now increased the MGNREGA work limit from 100 to 150 days for affected families for the financial year 2025–26.

A total of 1,962 Panchayats, declared flood-affected, will benefit from the enhanced employment support.

The extension—recommended by the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department—aims to ease economic distress, create rural assets, and strengthen income stability.

The additional workdays will be monitored through updated protocols and will be recorded on the NREGASoft MIS system.(KINS)
