Crime Branch conduct searches in Srinagar, Budgam over land fraud case

The Special Crime Wing Kashmir of the Crime Branch J&K on Thursday conducted house searches in Srinagar and Budgam districts in connection with a fraud case involving alleged land sale scam worth lakhs of rupees, officials said.


The searches were carried out in connection with FIR registered in 2026 under Sections 420, 468 and 120-B RPC following a complaint by a Humhama resident, who alleged that Tariq Ahmad Sofi of Solina, Srinagar, duped him on the pretext of selling land at Narkara in Srinagar.


“The investigation prima facie revealed that the accused, Tariq Sofi of Tulsi Bagh Srinagar and Tariq Ahmad Wani of Narkara, Budgam Near Unani Hospital (land brokers) , in connivance with the then Patwari, had prepared and used forged documents and entered into a criminal conspiracy to deceive the complainant and misappropriate money in connection with the land transaction,” the officials said.


Consequently, in continuation of the investigation, house searches were carried out at multiple locations in Srinagar and Budgam in the presence of Executive Magistrates to collect incriminating material and other evidence relevant to the case, they said.
