DAK Asks Govt to Sack GMC Principal

Srinagar: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today demanded removal of re-employed principal Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar Dr Rafiq Pampori for his involvement in purchase scams.

In a statement to KNS, President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan said that it is shocking that despite involvement of principal GMC in procurement scams, he continues to be on his position.

Principal GMC is involved in serious irregularities in purchase of equipments and medicines.

GMC officials are purchasing items from some blue-eyed firms who in return give them bribes and kickbacks.

The favoritism in appointments in GMC has given entry to incompetent professionals who perpetuate the vicious cycle of corrupt practices.

Medical corruption is the most serious offence as it entails crime against humanity.

These corrupt officials divert crucial resources away from poor patients which results in poor quality of care and worsening health outcomes.

Sadly, art of healing has turned into a science of stealing in Kashmir.

This menace of medical corruption has undermined the trust of patients in doctors and health care delivery system.

No public health programme can succeed in a setting in which public money is siphoned off, depriving the disadvantaged and poor of essential health care.

Some elements with vested interests are shielding the wrongdoings of Principal GMC and are sabotaging his ouster and this conspiracy of covering up has introduced criminality into medicine.

These elements are helping Principal GMC to retain his illegally occupied position who in bargain has adjusted their kith and kin in GMC and associated hospitals. (KNS)
