A Delhi court on Thursday sought a report from Tihar jail authorities after hearing an application moved by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for monitoring his blood sugar levels continuously and allowing him to consult his doctor,

Counsel for Kejriwal moved the application submitting that Kejriwal’s blood sugar levels have been fluctuating and he needs to consult his regular doctor.

Special public prosecutor (SPP) Zoheb Hossain on behalf of the Enforcement Directorate opposed the application by submitting that Kejriwal is deliberately consuming mangoes, sweets, and sugar with tea despite having diabetes to create grounds for bail for medical reasons.

The government counsel submitted that the motive behind the alleged deliberate consumption was to establish a foundation for seeking bail.

Kejriwal’s lawyer opposed the submission of the government counsel and claimed that the ED was making statements for media consumption. He is only eating what is prescribed by doctors, said the lawyer.

Special Judge Karegi Baweja after hearing submission by both sides directed the Tihar Jail authority to file a report in the matter, including Kejriwal diet chart and adjourned the matter for tomorrow.

Kejriwal is in the judicial custody till April 23 in Tihar jail after his arrest by ED in a money laundering case registered under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act related to Delhi Excise policy case.
