Describing Modi as ‘Champion of Tolerance’ Gratuitous: Tarigami

Srinagar: Senior political leader and legislator Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami Wednesday said that the he kind of religious tolerance and plurality that Mahatma Gandhi envisioned for India which was most evident in Kashmir in those hard days of trial and turbulence, is under serious attack by RSS led Sangh Parivar.  “It is very unfortunate that the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir refusing to recognize the ground realities in the country issues sweeping certificate of tolerance and inclusiveness to Mr Modi, Prime Minister of India. It is gratuitous and insulting to all those who value the traditions of plurality and harmony,” Tarigami said.

He said that at a time when communal disharmony, regional tension and hate mongering are being perpetuated by the RSS led ruling coalition and the intelligentsia of the country has risen in massive protests; PDP leadership should have desisted from projecting Mr Modi and his RSS led government as “maseeha” of tolerance and communal harmony.

“The hype being given to Prime Minister’s J&K visit and creating a sort of hysteria by calling it historic and something unique is quite absurd. The ruling PDP-BJP leadership is desperately giving an impression that J&K is getting a huge economic package as a favour. The self respect of the people of J&K is not for sale and any economic package should not be taken as alms which the Union Government gives away from its private coffer,” Tarigami said. (CNS)
