Devyani Rana, daughter of late BJP leader Devender Singh Rana, exuded confidence of a big victory soon after the BJP announced her as its candidate for the Nagrota Assembly by-poll in Jammu.
As jubilant supporters gathered outside her Gandhi Nagar residence, dancing to the beat of dhols, Devyani said she was grateful to the party leadership for trusting her.
“I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president J.P. Nadda and other senior leaders for their faith in me. With people’s blessings, we will make Nagrota a model constituency and fulfil my father’s dream,” she told reporters.
The Nagrota seat fell vacant after Devender Rana’s demise last October. The BJP has also fielded Aga Syed Mohsin from Budgam, where a bypoll was necessitated after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah vacated the seat.
Devyani, an entrepreneur with a degree in economics from the University of California, said she would carry forward her father’s vision with dedication and discipline. “This seat belongs to the BJP and will remain with the BJP,” she said confidently.
Calling the BJP “a family that believes in action, not words,” she said she was sure the people of Nagrota would bless her with overwhelming support.
Voting for the Assembly bypolls in eight states, including Jammu and Kashmir, will be held on November 11, and counting will take place on November 14.
Her father, Devender Singh Rana, had won the Nagrota seat in the 2024 Assembly elections, defeating NC’s Joginder Singh by over 30,000 votes. Devyani now hopes to build on that strong legacy in the upcoming by-poll.(KINS)
