Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler in Awantipora and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
A police party of Police Post Reshipora headed by Incharge Police Post Reshipora under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora Mumtaz Ali Bhatti at a checkpoint established at Kawani Crossing intercepted a suspicious person. During search, 150 grams of charas powder like substance was recovered from his possession, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
He has been identified as Muzaffar Ahmad Dar son of Gh Mohd Dar resident of Ladermud. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, police said.
Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 119/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Awantipora and investigation has been initiated.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said
