Delhi Police on Tuesday destroyed illegal drugs worth about Rs 1,600 crore in the presence of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.
A total of 10631.745 kgs of drugs were incinerated as per procedure at the SSI industrial area near Jahangirpuri in Delhi.
Following notifications from the Ministry of Finance and orders from the Supreme Court, various committees were formed by the Delhi Police to destroy the illegal drugs recovered from the drug smugglers. These committees have been involved in cases from 2009 to 2023, the Police said in a statement.
Ganja, heroin, charas, cocaine, Doda Post and psychotropic substances were prominent among the illegal drugs destroyed, it said.
In the future also, the process of destroying illegal drugs will continue to be done in this manner, the Police added.
