Jammu, May 21 (UNI) Highlighting the plight of the JKPCC, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president and MP Farooq Abdullah on Saturday appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to direct the administration to entrust construction works to the Corporation as per past practice.
The JKPCC also submitted a memorandum, where the union highlighted the Corporation’s plight as it has been left without any work.
“Look into personally and ask the line departments to entrust construction works to the JKPCC as per the past practice so that on the one hand these works are completed timely and on the other hand hundreds of employees along with their families are saved from starvation and also rusting the costly machinery is avoided,” Abdullah said while interacting with a delegation of J&K Projects Construction Corporation Workers Union here.
The delegation also submitted a memorandum to Abdullah for Sinha.
The delegation was headed by Union President Masood Ahmed along with General Secretary Shaksaz and other members of the Union.
At present the corporation has almost been left without any work resulting in difficulty even in payment of salaries regularly to its employees, its memorandum said.
The Corporation, which came into existence in 1965, was engaged in the development of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir particularly during turmoil of 1990s, when it took up new projects as well as reconstruction of the gutted infrastructure like bridge, hospitals, colleges, schools and other government buildings when all other agencies abandoned the field.
Abdullah also mentioned that the Corporation has not been getting any financial assistance for its expenses from the government and is fully dependent on its own resources.
