EOW Kashmir arrests revenue officer after three months on the run in corruption case

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir today arrested a revenue officer wanted in connection with a corruption and fraud case registered earlier this year.

The accused, Ashiq Ali, a resident of Panner Jagir and presently residing at Hawal, Srinagar, had served as Patwari, Balhama Srinagar. He had been absconding for the past three months, the EOW said in a statement.

According to officials, Ashiq Ali was wanted in connection with FIR No. 14/2025, registered under Sections 167, 420, and 120-B of the RPC, read with Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The case pertains to offences involving corruption, cheating, false mutations, and wrongful insertions in revenue records.

Following a thorough investigation and based on concrete evidence, the FIR was registered on July 9, 2025 against six accused persons, including a Tehsildar. Five of them had already been arrested in the matter.

“Despite sustained efforts, Ashiq Ali had been evading arrest since the registration of the case. However, acting on specific intelligence, a special team of the Economic Offences Wing (Crime Branch Kashmir) successfully apprehended the accused today,” they said.

The bail application of the accused had already been rejected by the Court.
