Crime Branch files chargesheet against 3 in Srinagar land fraud case

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against four persons for allegedly duping a complainant of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of securing his son’s admission to a medical college in Bangladesh, officials said on Friday.

The chargesheet in an FIR, registered in 2025 under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) IPC, was presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar.

The EoW said the complainant was introduced by a relative to Peerzada Aabid a resident of Bijbehara Anantnag and presently residing at Azad Basti Natipora Srinagar, who in turn connected him with Syed Wasim, proprietor of Europe Consultancy Centre. The duo allegedly assured admission to the complainant’s son in Park View Medical College, Bangladesh.

The complainant was subsequently introduced to Syed Suhail Aijaz of Kokernag Anantnag and Zaigam Khan of Bemina Srinagar, owners of Overseas Consultancy, who also promised to facilitate the admission.

Acting on their assurances, the complainant paid lakhs of rupees as fees.

The EoW probe revealed that while a substantial amount was collected from the complainant, only USD 8,000 (about Rs 6.04 lakh as per 2021 exchange rates) was deposited with the college. Due to non-payment of the remaining fee, the student was asked to leave the institution.

Based on bank records, official communication from the college, and witness statements, the allegations against all four accused were substantiated.

The Crime Branch said the investigation has been concluded as proved and the chargesheet submitted before the competent court for judicial adjudication.
