Four militants killed in separate encounters

J&K Police and security forces killed four local militants, including a JeM militant who was involved in the killing of Sub Inspector (SI) Farooq Ahmad, in two anti-militancy operations carried out in Pulwama and Sopore on Tuesday, police said.

Acting on a specific information about the presence of terrorists in village Tujjan area in Pulwama, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by the joint team of Police, Army’s 53RR & CRPF 183Bn.

“As the joint party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter,” the police said.
“In the ensuing encounter, 2 terrorists of proscribed terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed,” the police added.

The slain militants have been identified as Abid Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Barpora Pulwama and Majid Nazir Wani, a resident of Banpora Ladoo Pampore.

“As per police records, both the killed terrorists were part of group involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities. Besides, the slain terrorist Majid Nazir Wani was also involved in the killing of SI Farooq Ahmad,” they said.

A bullet riddled body of Police sub Inspector Farooq Mir was recovered from a paddy field in Awantipora sub-district of Jammu and Kashmir on June 18. Mir, a resident of Samboora, was posted with the India Reserve Police (IRP).

Incriminating materials, a huge cache of arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.

Similarly in Sopore, on specific input regarding presence of militants in Tulibal area, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army’s 52RR and CRPF.

“2 terrorists of proscribed terror outfit Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed during the encounter that broke out when the forces raided the hideout,” police said and added The slain militants have been identified as Zahid Ahmad Chopan, a resident of Tengwani Shopian and Mohd Youns Gul, a resident of Washbugh Pulwama.
“Both the killed terrorists had joined terror folds recently”, they said.

Two AK-47 rifles & 4 Magazines have been recovered from the site of the encounter.

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar congratulated the joint teams for carrying out the anti-terrorist operations in professional manner without any collateral damage. He also appreciated the joint team for tracking & neutralizing the terrorist involved in the recent killing of police officer in Pulwama.

Police have registered cases under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated.
