‘Million March program expose so-called democratic claims of India’

Srinagar: Hurriyat (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani along with his associates was today arrested by the police outside his Hyderpora residence and detained in Humhama police station when he tried to break his police cordon and was moving towards the “Million March” venue at TRC ground, spokesman said in a statement.

Terming the government actions as government “hooliganism” and “worst kind of state terrorism”, Hurriyat (G) spokesman said that not allowing the Million March program had badly exposed the so-called democratic claims of India and they lost this battle even before it could have started.

Terming the war like situation, curfew like restrictions and detention of hundreds of pro-freedom leaders, activists and youths to foil the peaceful “Million March” program as acceptance of defeat by the Indian rulers and their local agents, Geelani while addressing the media men outside his residence said that the real and basic problem in Kashmir is the “illegal and forced military occupation” of India and it is this military power which India is using to suppress the peaceful and genuine voices of the Kashmiri people.

He said that the today’s event was a peaceful program and a democratic step against the unrealistic approach of the Indian rulers with regarding to the reality of Kashmir issue but to counter this democratic step, the government used its state power and the military might and converted the whole Kashmir valley into an army garrison. This is the worst arrogance of power which Indian is displaying in Jammu & Kashmir.

Geelani said that until the people of Jammu & Kashmir are not given their right to self determination which has been promised to them by the Indian leadership and the world community, the “Million march” like programs will continue in the state. While lashing out at the RSS backed so-called CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Geelani said that he and his party PDP befooled the common people at the time of election and asked them to vote against the RSS and BJP but after gaining the votes, he sold all that to the same communal people against whom he used to threaten them. This is a big hypocrisy which the Mufti has shown to the people of Kashmir. In response to a question posed by a journalist, “that Mufti had said that the Modi visit is a historic event”, Geelani replied that the visit of Modi is not any historic event but this visit will push the people of Jammu & Kashmir into further darkness and his visit will add to the miseries of the Kashmiri people. It is a deceit which the pro-Indian politicians are giving to the people of the state. (KNS)
