FIFA President Gianni Infantino met ICC Chairman Jay Shah in Milan and praised Shah’s role in the global growth of cricket and expressing optimism over the sport’s return to the Olympic Games.
“It was my pleasure to meet ICC Chairman Jay Shah today in Milan,” Infantino wrote in an Instagram post.
“The outstanding work he has done to grow the beautiful game of cricket is exemplary.”
Infantino extended his best wishes to Shah and the cricketing fraternity ahead of cricket’s re-introduction to the Summer Olympic Games in 2028, marking the sport’s return to the Olympic programme after more than a century.
The FIFA President also underlined the importance of collaboration between sporting bodies. “I also look forward to working together and collaborating as we unite the world through sports,” he added.
Cricket’s inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics has been widely seen as a landmark moment for the sport’s global expansion.
The announcement marks a major milestone for the sport, returning to the Olympics for just the second time, 128 years after its Paris 1900 debut, when Great Britain claimed gold against France in a single match.
