National Conference (NC) legislator Javid Beigh on Wednesday said the government is set to expand the Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla and review the functioning of District Hospital Baramulla, ensuring that the livelihoods of locals are not affected in the process.
Talking to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), Beigh said the health sector remains a top priority for the Omar Abdullah-led government. “The Government Medical College Baramulla is being expanded from a 300-bedded to a 600-bedded facility. Similarly, the District Hospital Baramulla is under review. However, this will not have any adverse impact on the livelihood of people,” Beigh said.
He assured that the expansion and review will instead bring positive economic changes to the district. “The livelihood of shopkeepers and traders around the GMC and the hospital won’t get affected. On the contrary, Baramulla’s economy will receive a major boost as these projects will generate more employment opportunities for local youth,” he added.
The NC MLA stated that Baramulla is witnessing significant developmental progress under the present government. “There has been a noticeable push in developmental activities. This government is serious about addressing public issues, and its focus on accountability and transparency has increased over time,” Beigh noted.
He further said that improving healthcare infrastructure in north Kashmir is part of the government’s broader vision to make medical facilities more accessible and efficient. “People of Baramulla will soon witness better healthcare services and improved facilities,” he added. (KINS)
