Mumbai, May 24 (UNI) The Bombay High Court on Tuesday rejected a transit anticipatory bail plea of filmmaker Avinash Das for allegedly disrespecting the tricolour and sharing a picture of Home Minister Amit Shah with tainted Jharkhand IAS officer Pooja Singhal who was arrested for money laundering.
Das moved the Bombay High Court after the Crime Branch in Ahmedabad filed an FIR against Das, 46, after the filmmaker shared the photo on social media site on May 8 with the caption that it was taken before the IAS officer’s arrest last week.
The picture was that of Shah and Singhal at a public event five years ago.
According to the Gujarat Police, Das tweeted the picture to defame the Home Minister.
Das has also been charged in the same FIR for allegedly insulting the national flag by posting on March 17 a morphed picture of a woman wearing a tricolour.
On Tuesday while rejecting the bail plea, Justice Bharti Dangre directed him to “approach the appropriate forum for relief”.
In her order, Justice Dangre said Das should approach the concerned court in Ahmedabad for protection from arrest or any other relief pertaining to the case.
