A Hezbollah official was killed and another individual wounded early Monday in an Israeli airstrike targeting a car and motorcycle in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese military sources.
The sources, who requested anonymity, reported that an Israeli drone launched three separate volleys, each consisting of two air-to-surface missiles, at a car and motorcycle in Qlaileh, near the southwestern city of Tyre.
They said the strike killed the motorcyclist and injured the car’s driver, both of whom were rushed by ambulance to the Italian Hospital in Tyre.
Identified as Mustafa Hassan Salman, the motorcyclist is a local military official within Hezbollah responsible for operations in the western sector of the southern Lebanese border area, according to the sources.
The sources also detailed a separate attack, stating that “an Israeli warplane fired two air-to-surface missiles at a farm on Jabal Toura, a mountain in the Jezzine district of southern Lebanon.” This strike reportedly destroyed a two-story house and resulted in the deaths of 700 goats and sheep. However, the shepherd, a Syrian national, survived the incident.
Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on October 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah towards Israel in solidarity with Hamas’ attack on Israel the day before. Israel then retaliated by firing heavy artillery towards southeastern Lebanon.
The level of tension between Hezbollah and the Israeli army has escalated recently, as the Israeli military announced “its approval of operational plans for an attack on Lebanon.”
Meanwhile, Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah warned that no place in Israel “will be safe” from his party’s missiles in the event of an outbreak of war.
