The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday alleged that a series of home demolitions in various areas across Delhi has been underway ever since VK Saxena assumed the position of Lieutenant Governor.
Addressing the media, Senior AAP leader and Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, said that in recent days, there has been an uproar in the Delhi Legislative Assembly over the fact that for the past one and a half years since the new Lieutenant Governor came to Delhi, the series of demolitions of people’s homes in various areas of Delhi has been ongoing.
He said, “In this series, notices to demolish the slum settlements near Majnu ka Tila were distributed yesterday and the day before.”
“Whether it is the DDA, the L&DO, the Railways, or the Archaeological Survey of India, all the agencies under the Centre are engaged in the task of demolishing the homes of poor people living in slum settlements of Delhi,” he said.
“The DDA has issued notices to demolish the homes of Hindu refugees who have been living near Majnu ka Tila for the past 13 years,” Bharadwaj added.
He further questioned the Lieutenant Governor’s motive behind targeting these poor people living in slum settlements, asking what enmity he has with them.
Criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party, the senior AAP leader said, “The entire country knows very well that the BJP fights elections in the name of Hindutva, calls itself a Hindu nationalist party, and asks for votes from the people of the country in the name of Hindutva. But the BJP-led Central Government, which claims to be a Hindu nationalist, is adamant on demolishing the homes of thousands of Hindu refugees who have come from Pakistan to save their lives.”
“The double character of the BJP has been exposed in front of the whole country today.” adding that the Bharatiya Janata Party has nothing to do with either Hindutva or Hindus, they only continue to grind its political axes in the name of Hindutva,” he said.
