India expresses condolences over Afghan quake deaths, offers support

India on Wednesday expressed condolences over the deaths in Afghanistan due to the massive quake and said it remains committed to providing assistance and support in this hour of need.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, in a tweet said:
“India expresses sympathy and condolences to the victims and their families, and to all those impacted by the tragic earthquake in Afghanistan.
“We share the grief of the people of Afghanistan and remain committed to provide assistance and support in this hour of need.”
The 6.1 Richter quake in Afghanistan that hit the Paktika and Khost provinces has killed 920 people and left 610 others injured, said a Taliban minister.
The 6.1 temblor has damaged buildings in Khost and Paktika.
The state-run Bakhtar news agency said rescuers were arriving by helicopter.
Mawlawi Sharafuddin Muslim, deputy Minister of State for Disaster Management, told a news conference that “920 people were killed and 610 were injured” in last night’s earthquake that hit several provinces of Afghanistan.
