Says militancy in Kashmir on decline, stresses police to use technology for ‘more success’ Zakir Musa

Poonch: Director General of Police (DGP) Kashmir Dilbagh Singh Tuesday remarked that the killing of Zakir Musa marked the end of ISIS in Kashmir. He also said that the ideology of the global militant group was “unacceptable” to Kashmir.
DGP was addressing police jawans and officers at District Police Lines Rajouri and Poonch during his visit to the twin districts.
He was accompanied by IGP Vijay Kumar and DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range Vivek Gupta. The visit was part of the series of his visits to the districts of Jammu Zone.
Earlier, DGP visited Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Gool, Mahore, Reasi and Udhampur districts of Jammu Zone.
Responding to the question on the killing of Ansar Ghazwatul Hind (AGH) chief Zakir Rashid Bhat alais Zakir Musa, DGP said Musa was coming up with a new idea in the militancy.
“He was coming up with ISIS ideology,” Singh said adding that with Musa’s killing, the ideology has also been killed.
DGP also claimed that the propounded ideology of Zakir Musa was not accepted by anyone inside and outside Kashmir. “Musa tried hard to mislead people but with the efforts of police, the supporters were crushed and at last he was killed,” he said.
Claiming that the number of militants is decreasing in the Valley, Singh said there are 275 militants active of which 100 to 115 are foreign. Earlier the number would increase but with back to back killings the number has decreased, he said.
“We also succeeded in stopping infiltration this year which resulted in less foreigners reaching this side,” Singh added.
Singh on the occasion congratulated forces for smooth conduct of recently held elections and hailed them for their efforts against drug menace in Kashmir.
“Drug peddlers should be booked under PSA to curb their malpractices and bring them to justice,” he said.
He highlighted the importance of technology and crime detection and stressed upon the police personnel to equip themselves with more professional skills to achieve better successes in fight against crime and militancy.
DGP impressed upon police that they should be people friendly but tough against criminals. (GNS)
