To maintain public peace, order and tranquillity on the day of counting on June four, district Magistrate, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, on Monday issued a prohibitory order within the premises of counting centres.
An order issued here stated, “While the counting of votes for the General Elections to the Lok Sabha 2024 is fixed on the June 4, there exists every apprehension of problems related to law and order, public peace and tranquility on the day of counting.”
To maintain public peace, order and tranquillity on the day of counting, procession and sloganeering of any kind is prohibited within premises of counting centres; use of public address system, loudspeakers and celebration by any political party or candidates within premises of the counting venue; carrying of sticks either with or without flags, lathis, processions or big gatherings within a radius of 100 metres from the counting centres; bursting and throwing crackers on the roads and at public places on the day of counting.”
Further, the order stated that no victory procession, rallies or any sort of other procession by any candidate / political parties shall be allowed without prior permission.
The Returning officer also convened a crucial meeting with candidates contesting Lok Sabha election and their agents to discuss preparedness and protocols for counting of votes.
SSP Dr Vinod Kumar elucidated security-related guidelines and protocols, ensuring candidates and their agents face no unexpected hassles on counting day.
The counting of votes will be held at Government Polytechnic College Bikram Chowk and MAM College Jammu.
During the meeting, the RO gave a detailed presentation on preparations and protocols for counting process.
He highlighted that Section 144 and the model code of conduct (MCC) would remain in force on counting day, prohibiting any violations.
