NC slams Mehbooba Mufti, blames PDP for J&K’s political turmoil

The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, on Friday, launched a scathing attack on PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, accusing her of once again resorting to shedding crocodile tears while attempting to distance herself from the consequences of her party’s past political decisions.

State spokesperson of NC Imran Dar, in a statement, said the PDP, which brought the BJP into power in Jammu and Kashmir after the 2014 elections and subsequently entered into a coalition with it, “pushed the region into political turmoil and institutional decay.”

He alleged that the period witnessed a sharp deterioration in the security and administrative landscape, marked by the use of pellet guns, large-scale injuries to youth, detentions under the Public Safety Act, and widespread arrests that devastated the lives and futures of an entire generation.

He further accused the PDP-led government of eroding the region’s economic safeguards through the implementation of SARFEASI, GST, and other legislative measures, terming it a systematic dismantling of economic autonomy. He also cited administrative failures, recruitment irregularities and the neglect of the growing drug menace as part of what he described as PDP’s misgovernance legacy.

Imran said that the same leadership that enabled and facilitated the BJP’s political entry and expansion in Jammu and Kashmir is now attempting to portray itself as a victim.

“Today, the same party is shedding crocodile tears over unemployment, economic distress, and drug abuse, despite having presided over the very conditions that triggered these crises,” he said.

He added that since the formation of the Omar Abdullah-led government, sustained efforts have been made to reverse what he termed a decade of misgovernance and policy distortion. However, he accused Mehbooba Mufti of deliberately ignoring ground realities and indulging in selective, politically motivated criticism.

He asserted that PDP cannot evade responsibility for key political developments in Jammu and Kashmir, including the abrogation of Article 370, the bifurcation of the erstwhile state, and its conversion into a union Territory.

“By aligning with the BJP not once but twice, the PDP legitimised their political foothold and enabled decisions that have had far-reaching constitutional and political consequences,” he said.
