The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped and arrested Patwari of Patwar Halqa Shahpur in Poonch district, for demanding and accepting a bribe of 15,000.
ACB in a statement said that the action was taken following a written complaint, in which the complainant alleged that his house had been damaged during the recent heavy rains. A report regarding the damage had already been filed at Police Station Poonch. However, when the complainant approached Patwari Jameel Ahmed Bhat with the police report and completed forms for compensation, the accused allegedly demanded ₹20,000 for processing the case.
Unable to pay the bribe due to financial constraints, the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a formal complaint.
Based on the complaint, FIR No. 06/2025 was registered at Police Station ACB Rajouri under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), and investigation was taken up.
During the investigation, a trap was laid by ACB Rajouri, and Patwari was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹15,000 from the complainant. He was immediately arrested, and subsequent searches were carried out at his residence.
Further investigation in the case is underway.(KINS)
