J&K admin shortlists 14 candidates for new Jammu university VC, interview on Mar 9

Jammu, Mar 2 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Administration has shortlisted 14 candidates for the post of new Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu.

However, the interviews will be conducted on March 9.
Sources privy to the administration told UNI that out of total 234 applications, the names of 14 academicians including three from the University of Jammu itself are shortlisted for the new Vice Chancellor face.

“The search committee after conducting interviews will prepare a panel of final three candidates and hand it over to the Lieutenant Governor, who is also de-facto Chancellor of the institution,” sources added and said  one of the candidates will finally be stamped by Lieutenant Governor for new Vice Chancellor in the next fifteen days.

Sources added that the names of three Jammu University professors shortlisted included Prof. Meena Sharma, Prof. Department of Economics, Dipankar Sen Gupta and current VC Prof. Manoj Dhar while rest 11 candidates are from outside Jammu and Kashmir.

“After the formation of the Union Territory, the tenure of the Vice Chancellors of the Jammu and the Kashmir Universities was reduced to three years,” sources said, adding that the Vice Chancellors of both the universities were earlier appointed for five years.

Sitting Jammu University VC, Prof. Manoj Dhar’s three-year term ended on July 25, 2021, while Kashmir University’s VC, Prof. Talat Ahmed’s three-year term ended on August 5, 2021.
“To appoint new Vice Chancellor, a search committee was framed under the supervision of former Vice Chancellor of Punjab University, Chandigarh, Arun Kumar Grover, in which two other members of the committee were Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, Prof. Pardesi Lal and former Vice Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi, Prof. Anil Kumar Tyagi,” they added.
“The search committee will finalize three names and submit to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and in the capacity of Chancellor he will appoint the new VC of the University of Jammu for a period of three years,” sources added.

Meanwhile the exercise of the search committee in progress to find the new VC of Kashmir University for which Pankaj Mittal, general secretary of the Indian Association of Universities, has been appointed as the chairman of the search committee, while Prof Najma Akhtar, VC, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and Professor Muhammad Mian, former VC of MANUU, have been appointed as members.
The process of short-listing the candidates for the appointment of VC of Kashmir University is in progress, they said.
