The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today passed three important bills aimed at strengthening governance, labour regulations, and cooperative frameworks in the union Territory.
The House cleared by voice vote the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2025, moved by Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Javid Ahmad Dar.
The second legislaton passed by the Assembly was the Jammu and Kashmir Shops and Establishments (Licensing, Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Amendment Bill, 2025, moved by Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Kumar Choudhary.
“A Bill to amend and consolidate the laws relating to regulation of employment and other conditions of service of workers employed in shops and establishments and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. (L.A. Bill No. 6 of 2025),” reads the Bill passed by voice vote in the House.
The Legislative Assembly also passed by voice vote the Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies Amendment Bill, 2025 moved by Minister for Cooperative, Javid Ahmad Dar.
The other bill ratified by the House is the Jammu and Kashmir Tenancy Bill, 2025, which was moved by Minister for Health, Education and Social Welfare, Sakeena Itoo on behalf of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
“A Bill to establish a Rent Authority to regulate renting of premises and to protect the interests of landlords and tenants and to provide speedy adjudication mechanism for resolution of disputes and matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. (L.A. Bill No. 4 of 2025),” reads the passed Bill.
The Bill was passed by the House through a voice vote.
