Lieutenant Governor Orders Reopening of more Tourist Spots in Jammu Kashmir

The 23-day Legislative Assembly session of the union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir began on Monday with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressing the House.

His speech will be followed by a multi-day discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the LG’s Address, along with the government’s response.

The fifth session of the Assembly, spread over a three-month period (in phases), began with an address by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today.

The Budget Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will commence with the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-led government presenting its budget in the House on February 6.

Abdullah also holds the portfolio of the Finance Department, will present the second budget of his government since taking office on October 16, 2024, ending nearly six years of central rule.

According to the Assembly calendar issued by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, the Budget Session will conclude on April 4 and will be conducted in three phases.

The first phase started today and will be held before the commencement of Ramzan (expected to begin on February 18 or 19, subject to the sighting of the moon) and two others after Eid-ul-Fitr in March and April.March and April will have five and four days of business, respectively, according to the Assembly calendar.

Following the budget presentations, a general discussion on the Budget and the government’s response will take place. The April phase will also feature Private Members’ Bills and Resolutions, alongside government business.

Nearly 1,500 questions have been submitted by MLAs for the session. In the 90-member House, 83 legislators, including the Chief Minister, five ministers, and the Speaker, are eligible to ask 20 questions each (10 starred and 10 unstarred).
