JK attaches CEO Baramulla over social media gag order

The Government today attached in-charge Chief Education Officer, Baramulla, Bashir Ahmad Shah days after he issued a circular warning teaching and non-teaching staff not to criticise government policies on social media.


An order issued by the School Education department in this regard reads, “Pending inquiry, Bashir Ahmad Shah, In-charge Chief Education Officer, Baramulla is hereby attached to the Directorate of School Education Kashmir with immediate effect.


Further, the Chief Education Officer, Bandipora, shall hold charge of the post of Chief Education Office, Baramulla and Principal, DIET Sopore, Baramulla, till further orders”.


Further, Joint Director Education (North), Kashmir has been asked to conduct an inquiry into the matter and submit a report to the Administrative department within 15 days.


The Government said it remains committed to the welfare of common masses as well as employees and anyone indulging in affairs of government without proper authority will face due action.


In the circular that was issued on October 4, the CEO of Baramulla directed all employees of the school education department of the district to strictly adhere to the guidelines and refrain from “indulging in unwarranted debates and discussions and avoid sharing, commenting or posting inappropriate content on social media platforms.”


The order had warned of such acts as interference in the policy matters of the department.
