National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Monday blamed the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha’s administration for “sabotaging” the conduct of J&K Assembly polls.

Omar Abdullah said this after he kicked off his party’s election campaign from south Kashmir.

“ The current Jammu and Kashmir Government sabotaged the move to hold Assembly and Parliamentary elections simultaneously as they don’t want to see an elected government here”, Omar told media persons on the sidelines of a public rally held at Damhal Hanji Pora in Kulgam district on Monday.

The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said the current dispensation wants to “continue to rule like uncrowned kings” and doesn’t want to see an elected government here.

“We wanted both Parliamentary and Assembly elections to be held together, which did not happen,” Omar said.

“We thank God that as per the Supreme Court order, they will have to conclude elections before September 30. The Chief Election Commissioner also made it clear that the elections in Jammu and Kashmir would be held before the deadline and hopefully, there will be a people’s government,” the NC Vice President said.

Earlier, addressing the gathering Omar said that the Election Commission said in clear words that “all the political parties wanted the assembly election to be held along with the Lok Sabha, but only our officers were the obstacle.”

“ Delhi also said that we do not have a security system. If the claims of improvement of conditions, peace, stone pelting, and elimination of guns are true, then why so many security arrangements? He said that the fact is that their habits are bad., they are enjoying the lack of accountability, no one has control over them, and the officer who sits in the office rules there. No, the Raj will not be Raj Bhavan’s, not Delhi’s Raj, but will be the Raj of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Omar said in his address.

He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir will decide which thing to build where, which project to build where, and which land to hand over to whom.

“ Contractors will not come from outside, employees will not come from outside, power and authority will be given to the hands of the people here,” he said.

The former Chief Minister said the upcoming elections provide a chance to show rejection for the actions of August 5, 2019, through which the “insignias of our unique identity, our flag, our Constitution were snatched away.”

“We should grab this opportunity and tell the country and the world that those actions are not acceptable to us and we are ready to fight a long battle for the restoration of what was snatched from us. These elections lend us an opportunity to secure our children’s future, their scholarships, their jobs; these elections provide us an opportunity to secure our natural resources for our people,” he said.

Targeting the BJP and its allies, the leader said that the BJP is under the misconception that it will win seats here by dividing the people.

“That is why as per the Dixon Plan, as part of a conspiracy, demarcation of parliamentary seats was done, Rajouri Poonch was cut off from Jammu and merged with South Kashmir. These people are following the British method of “divide and rule”, trying to make Kashmiris fight Jammu, Hindus fight Muslims, Paharis fight Gujjars, and so on,” he said.

The presence of prominent NC Gujjar leader Mian Altaf fueled speculation the party might field him in the Anantnag- Rajouri constituency which has a significant Gujjar vote. The NC rally in south Kashmir is also a message to the People’s Democratic Party that it was not willing to concede the South Kashmir seat to it.
Both NC and PDP are part of the INDIA alliance.
