J&K govt notifies provisional selection list for appointment of outstanding sportspersons

The wait is finally over for the outstanding athletes from different disciplines as the Jammu and Kashmir government has notified the provisional selection list for their appointment as gazetted and non-gazetted officers in the Department of Youth Services and Sports.


As per the notification Number-JK(YSS) of 2026, Dated: 11.02.2026, issued by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Youth Services and Sports Department, on the merit position of the candidates as per their achievements, the Provisional Selection List of the candidates for five posts of Chief Coach in Gazetted cadre for the year 2022 and 217 posts of Instructor in Non-gazetted cadre for the calendar year 2014-2022 for appointment of outstanding sportspersons in the Government service in terms of S.O. 12 of 2022 read with S.O 412 of 2023, have been notified.


It further notified that the Youth Services and Sports Department reserves the right to have certificates and documents of the candidates verified, if any at a later stage if found expedient to do so.


“The Selection of the candidates is purely provisional and is subject to the outcome of writ petition(s) pending before any competent Court of Law,” it read and said that the selection is provisional and objections, if any, may be submitted to the Youth Services and Sports Department within seven days for examination and disposal.


No claim, whatsoever, shall be entertained after seven days from the date of issuance of this Notification, adding it further read that the objections, if any, shall be submitted in the Youth Services and Sports Department through email (jkyss-deptt@jk.gov.in).


Seven posts have been kept reserved in terms of directions of the Central Administrative Tribunal and one post kept reserved for grant of upper age relaxation while the final selection list and appointments shall be subject to the disposal of objection(s) received, if any, further read.


The Jammu and Kashmir (Appointment of Outstanding Sportspersons) Rules, 2022 were notified by General Administration Department vide S.O. 12 of 2022 Dated 06.01.2022; and in pursuance to the rule, the Youth Services and Sports Department invited applications for the quota of calendar year 2014 to 2021 for appointment of outstanding sportspersons in the Government services, it read.


The notification further read that the General Administration Department constituted a Scrutiny Committee to scrutinize the application forms received in the Youth Services and Sports Department and prepare select list and merit list as per the provisions of S.O 12 of 2022 read with S.O 412 of 2023 and after scrutinizing the application forms, framed the General Merit list of eligible candidates strictly in accordance with the criteria prescribed in the relevant rules and the same was placed before the Selection Committee constituted.


However, as per the notification, five gazetted posts included one from the shooting discipline and four from Pencak Silat while the athletes from Gymnastics, Kayaking and Canoeing, Wushu, Handball, Roller Skating, Cricket, Karate, Judo, Shooting, Fencing, Powerlifting, Chess, Cycling, Softball, Skiing, Taekwondo, Kho-Kho, Weightlifting, Netball and para athletes in physically challenged category are among those listed in the appointments.
