Announce package for unemployed dental surgeons: DAK
Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) Saturday expressed concern over poor oro-dental care and facilities in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Keeping in view the increasing number of patients in the speciality of oral health care and corresponding lack of human power and infrastructure in state, it is high time to create new posts for Dental Surgeons,” said president DAK, Dr Suahil Naik.
Naik said that “it is established fact that poor and innocent people are forced to consult quacks for oro-dental ailments as successive state governments have miserably failed in upgrading the said speciality in terms of human resources and infrastructure.”
“It is unfortunate and pathetic that public service commission has not advertised any post of dental surgeons for last 10 years which has created a huge gap in doctor-patient ratio , unemployment and consequent brain drain. It is sad to mention that the number of unemployed dental surgeons have reached to more than 3000.”
Dr Owais H Dar, General secretary DAK said that “lackadaisical approach of successive governments to upgrade Dental health care is mainly responsible for epidemics of viral hepatitis especially Hepatitis B & C in Jammu and Kashmir as innocent people are forced to consult quacks. In pain and agony patients have no option in public sector and they invariably falls in trap of quacks, where they usually get infected with life limiting disease of hepatitis.” it has reported to DAK that many of the unemployed dental surgeons have crossed the age limit and many are taking anti-depressants for lack of job opportunities.
Dr Arshed H Trag , joint Secretary DAK added that Government must take this issue seriously and on priority and some package must be announced for unemployed dental surgeons. National Health Mission (NHM) needs to come forward and absord the unemployed dental surgeons at larger level.
Doctors Association Kashmir requests the Hon’ble LG of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri GC Murmu led administration to take cognizance of this serious health issue and appropriate and immediate steps must be taken for creation of dental surgeon posts and upgradation of infrastructure in the larger interest of people of state.
