Police destroyed more than 150 kg of seized contraband substance worth Rs 60 Lakh in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district on Thursday.

Police said the seized Narctotic Drugs were destroyed under the directions of Court of District and Sessions Judge Budgam Nikhil Borker on Thursday.

They said a committee constituted by the Budgam police destroyed the seized norcotic drugs under Section 52-A of NDPS Act in presence of Special Mobile Magistrate Budgam.

The process of destroying the contraband was carried out at Kashmir Healthcare System Bio-Medical Waste Unit ICG Lassipora Pulwama, with strictly following legal protocol and environmental protection standards.

The discarded contraband was seized in 23 criminal cases and included 120 Kilograms and 404 grams of Poppy Straw, 27 kilograms and 201 grams of Charas, 2 kilograms and 150 grams of caffeine and 64 tablets of Spasmoproxyvon. The net worth of drugs destroyed amounts to the tune of Rs 60 lakhs approximately.

Police reiterated its unwavering commitment to eradicate the menace of drugs and promote a drug-free society and also appealed to the citizens to support this mission by reporting any drug-related activity to the nearest police station.
