J&K Police recovers abducted young woman in Himachal, arrests 'kidnapper'

Jammu and Kashmir Police today arrested a married man for allegedly using social media to lure a young woman from Ganderbal with false promises of marriage, and kidnapping her

. Police traced the couple to Himachal Pradesh and rescued the woman from his clutches.


The young woman’s father had filed a complaint of kidnapping on November 3 after his daughter left home.


Police said acting on specific input, a special police team from Police Post Shadipora Ganderbal traced their mobile phone and apprehended the accused, Firdous Rustum Khan, of Shatigam, Handwara, and the young woman, while they were in Himachal Pradesh.


“The accused is a vagabond and was already married around ten years ago, and having two children. The investigation further revealed that the accused had been using social media and other online platforms to lure girls,” police said.


After completing all medico-legal formalities, the recovered woman was handed over to her legal heirs.


In this connection, a case under sections BNS 87 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage) was registered at Police Station Ganderbal, and further investigation is in progress.


J&K Police has appealed to the general public, especially youth, to remain cautious while interacting with strangers on social media, and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
