The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and Department of Youth Services and Sports are jointly set to host an international level Chess and Pencak Silat championships August and September.
A government official on Tuesday told UNI that J&K is going to host international championships of Chess and Pencak Silat in the coming months.
“By hosting international level competitions in two disciplines, Jammu and Kashmir will surely be moving towards touching new heights in the sports sector and will attain focus globally among the sports enthusiasts,” said an official.
He further added that the International Chess Festival will be held at Jammu from August 20 to 28 and will see a huge participation from across the world.
“It will be a platform for our youngsters to improve their rankings and get exposed to the world class which will surely help them in refining their professional skills,” he added.
Similarly, the Junior Asian Pencak Silat Championship will be held in Srinagar from September 1 to 4.
“Both the competitions will bring Jammu and Kashmir to the world stage in sports for which the government has already started the preparations,” he added and said that the both, the J&K Sports Council and the Department of Youth Services and Sports besides concerning Sports Association are on toes to make this gala event a success.
The J&K team of World Junior Asian Pencak Silat will be selected in August during the trials, in which only medal winners in the national championship and Federation Cup will participate, he revealed.
A 21-day camp for the players will also be organised while the Pencak Federation will release the notification of the trial.
As many as 26 countries are expected to participate in the championship, the official said.
“Jammu and Kashmir will host two international championships this time. The International Chess Championship will be held in Jammu and the Junior Asian Pencak Silat Championship to be held in Srinagar,” he confirmed.
