JK: Urdu Council emphasises to promote Urdu language, literature in J&K

The Jammu and Kashmir Urdu Council (JKUC) on the foundation day on Saturday emphasised to take appropriate measures for the development and promotion of Urdu language and literature.

A function was organised here, in which the speakers emphasised on the development and promotion of Urdu language and literature which was attended by the eminent writers, poets and people from different walks of life.

During the ceremony, the annual report of the Urdu Council was presented, while those who showed
exceptional performance in various fields were awarded for their recognition in the field.

An official of the Council also provided information about the performance of the organisation for the one year during the function.

The official stressed that universities and colleges should also play their key role for the development and promotion of Urdu language and literature in J&K.

“We should make our children pay attention to Kashmiri as well as Urdu language from childhood,” the speaker said.

He said that Jammu and Kashmir Urdu Council is not against any language but everyone should come forward for the promotion of Urdu language along with the mother tongue.

During the function, editor-in-chief of Tameel Irshad Akash Amin was honoured with an award for his efforts to promote Kashmiri as well as Urdu language through his newspapers in J&K.

Amin is also editor-in-chief of lone Kashmiri language daily newspaper “Kahwatt”, published from Srinagar.
