J&K: Vaishno Devi hills receive season’s first snowfall, yatra suspended

The yatra to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi cave shrine was suspended on Friday due to inclement weather conditions while the Trikuta Hills received season’s first snowfall in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials here said that the Vaishno Devi Hills have received the first snowfall of the season, adding, “the rains lashed the plains of Katra town–the base camp to Bhawan while the Vaishno Devi Hills received the season’s first snowfall.”

However, the helicopter service to the Bhawan also remained hit due to harsh weather conditions, they said.

“The yatra has been suspended from the Katra base camp in the morning and no fresh batch was allowed towards the Bhawan,” they said.

They added that the decision to resume the yatra will be taken considering weather advisory and subject to fair weather conditions.

In the month of January this year, around 4.30 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the cave shrine as 18,000 to 22,000 pilgrims are daily visiting the Bhawan.
