Kashmir Bar Stay Away From Work Against Arrests

 The Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association Srinagar is staying away from work today and tomorrow to protest the arrest spree and detention of two of its members.

Bar members are also abstaining from court against the crackdown on the pro-freedom leaders and the arrest of more than 200 activists, ahead of PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Kashmir on Saturday, said a statement issued here today.

Two members of the association, Mohammad Shafi Reshi, Advocate and Shabir Ahmad Bukhari Advocate have also been detained, the statement added.

“Mohammad Shafi Reshi Advocate along with Arshid Andrabi Advocate had been deputed by the Bar Association to Delhi in connection with the case filed by some Hindu fanatics  in the Supreme Court of India for scraping of Article 35-A of the Constitution of India,” it said.

Mohammad Shafi Reshi and Arshid Andrabi after attending the proceedings of the case on November 3 were returning home, with necessary documents of the case and when they reached Srinagar Airport in the morning flight, Reshi was arrested and detained at police station Humhama, added the statement.

Bukhari, on his way from Lower court to High Court when he was arrested by Shaheed Gunj police and was thereafter shifted to police Station Kreeri Pattan few days back, it said.

“Since the arrest and detention of these two advocates by the police without any reason or justification, being arbitrary and against the canons of law and it having been made only to please Narendra Modi who is coming to valley on November 7 therefore, these arrests and detentions are condemnable in strongest possible terms,” the statement said.(Agencies)
