Srinagar-based veteran photo-journalist Nissar Ahmad, who was associated with national daily The Hindu, died on Wednesday.
Family sources said Nissar was unwell for some time and was admitted to Srinagar’s Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital on Tuesday. He breathed his last this morning.
Kashmiri journalists recalled Nissar as a brave and gentle man who had won the battle against cancer in the past. He was associated with The Hindu for the last 30 years.
Several political, social and journalist associations, including Kashmir Press Photographers Association (KPPA), offered condolences to the bereaved family.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti expressed condolences on his passing away.
“Very sad news. Nissar was a regular presence at events and press conferences over the years. His absence will be greatly felt. May Allah grant him place in Jannat. My condolences to his family and colleagues,” Omar posted on X.
“Very sorry to hear about the passing away of veteran photojournalist Nissar Ahmed. May Allah give his family and loved ones strength to bear this loss”, Mehbooba posted on X.
