After a three-day visit of the party’s national general secretary Ram Madhav, the BJP high command has deputed the general secretary (organisation) of the J&K unit Ashok Koul to hold discussions with local leaders to finalise the name of Ladakh president.

After the resignation of Chering Dorjay as the party’s Ladakh chief, the BJP leadership is assiduously trying to evolve a consensus on the name of the new party head.

Sources said Ashok Koul, who was the general secretary (organisation) of both the union territories of Ladakh and J&K has assigned the job to take all senior leaders on the board on this issue.

“In the past three days Koul has been holding meetings with grass-roots level leaders as well as office-bearers to seek their opinion on the choice of the new president”, a source said, adding, “The BJP leadership has decided to take Shia-dominated Kargil leaders also on the board before finalising any name”.

Notably, during his three-day visit to Leh last week, Ram Madhav had sought the opinion of the party leaders to appoint the new president.

Sources said Madhav also met ‘annoyed’ Dorjay who had resigned from the party, as a section within the party was of the opinion that veteran Dorjay must be placated and convinced to withdraw his resignation. (TNS)
