The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch J&K filed a chargesheet in an eight-year-old case against two persons for allegedly cheating farmers and distributing spurious agricultural products in the Valley, officials said on Thursday.
The chargesheet in the FIR registered in 2018 was filed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Sopore, against Shahbaz Ahmad Bhat of Bomai, Sopore, and Kursheed Ahmad Mir of Rajpora, Pulwama.
The accused had been booked under Sections 420 and 120B RPC and Section 3/7 of the Essential Commodities Act for offences related to cheating, criminal conspiracy, and sale of counterfeit agricultural products.
According to EOW, the case was registered following a complaint alleging circulation of fake “Glo Potash” agriculture products in the Valley. Investigation revealed that the accused allegedly conspired to distribute the counterfeit product to secure wrongful financial gains, causing losses to orchardists, horticulturists and the company concerned.
The chargesheet has been submitted before the court for further proceedings.
